NIFDC Launches Public Consultation on Banning CBD as Cosmetics Ingredient

NIFDC Launches Public Consultation on Banning CBD as Cosmetics Ingredient

On March 26, 2021, the NIFDC (National Institute for Food and Drug Control) launched a public consultation to solicit comments on prohibiting Cannabis Sativa Fruit, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa Leaf Extract and Cannabidiol (CBD) as ingredients for cosmetics in China.

Should the ban be implemented, this new regulatory update will create a great impact for brands importing cannabidiol skincare products to China.  A significant increase of successful applications has been recorded in 2020 and 2021 for filing overseas and domestic cannabis cosmetics.
