NMPA issues New IECIC

On April 30, 2021, the NMPA (National Medical Products Administration) published the new IECIC (Inventory of Existing Cosmetic Ingredients in China) list (2021 Edition) coming into force on May 1, 2021. The first edition was published in 2014, and last updated in 2015, now covering a total of 8792 cosmetic ingredients.
The revision of the IECIC helps to ensure the safety use of cosmetics whilst the updated database of raw materials will serve as reference for risk assessment on the product safety of cosmetics.
Highlights
- For cosmetics filing and/or registration, the evaluation method of the compliance of the ingredients remains the same compared to the 2015 Edition.
- The highest historical usage of some ingredients indicated in the IECIC (2021 edition) can support the writing of the “Cosmetic Safety Assessment Report” for cosmetic filing and registration applications in 2022
